This genetic defect renders our bodies unable to convert standard forms of B6 into the metabolically active form pyridoxal 5 phosphate (P5P). This negative is also seen in patients with liver and intestinal diseases, increased alcohol consumption, acute intoxications and when working in toxic environments.
